IMPORTANT: OpenTAP Source Code License Change!

After much deliberation, legal review, and a few warm spring days… the OpenTAP team has decided to re-license OpenTAP under the following license terms, aka the BEER-WARE license. This will maximize community growth… and minimize thirst. The license is compatible with GPL.

We will make another announcement as soon as the re-licensed code is available on Gitlab.

     * ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
     * "THE BEER-WARE LICENSE" (Revision 42):
     * support@opentap.io wrote this file. As long as you retain this notice you
     * can do whatever you want with this stuff. If you think
     * this stuff is worth it, you can send a beer to

What, you are not switching to the First Born license?

April Fools! If you thought it was too good to be true… well, you were right. It was!

The OpenTAP engine remains licensed under the MPLv2 (no change)… and we still recommend OSS plugins under MIT. We love a good laugh and, more so, we love a good beer (and hope you do too)!

So feel free to take a picture with a good beer in hand and virtually toast to the OpenTAP community. Post the picture here in this thread, we’ll be rewarding a few folks who do with some OpenTAP swag!

Cheers! :beers:

And on May 1, International Workers’ Day, the license will switch to GPLv3.
